To the Editor:

It was my pleasure to attend the fundraiser held by the Independent Party of Newtown on Saturday, October 13. This was a wonderful, inspiring event. The evening was fun, well attended and included live music, light dinner fare and cocktails.

Political discussions were varied and enthusiastic. It was interesting to learn the backgrounds of each member of this diverse group. The candidates consist of registered Republicans, Democrats, and other unaffiliated voters. Diverse as they are, they share a common goal for Newtown. They have become discontent in dealing with the lack of openness in town government and have chosen to run for office after reaching an unacceptable level of frustration. I learned that IPN is interested in more than just our educational system. They are focused on comprehensive municipal issues as well, such as effective, long-term strategic planning for the town and for Fairfield Hills, space and tax relief for seniors, town services, recreation’ and more.

I admire the courage, integrity and intelligence of these candidates and urge you to learn more about them at www.independentpartyofnewtown.com.
