Amelia Carvalho

Amelia Carvalho, 88, wife of the late Abel Carvalho, died at the Glen Hill Convalescent Center in Danbury on February 7.

She was the mother of Abel Carvalho of Newtown.

She was born in Portugal, April 16, 1911, daughter of the late Manuel and Antonia Coelho. She came to Danbury as a child and had been a resident here for approximately 80 years. Mrs Carvalho had attended Danbury schools and had worked with her late husband in his businesses, the South End Bakery and later Abel’s Market on White Street in Danbury. Mrs Carvalho was a member of the late AARP #1847.

She is survived by four other sons, Nelson Carvalho, Norman Carvalho, Raymond Carvalho and Edward Carvalho, all of Danbury; a daughter, Alice Pereira of Southbury; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury on February 10. Burial followed in St Peter Cemetery.
