Free Seminar On Arthritis

SOUTHBURY — The Arthritis Foundation is sponsoring a free seminar, “New Treatments for Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis,” Thursday, May 18, 3 pm at the Southbury Public Library.

A local arthritis specialist, Michael Spiegel, MD, will present information on seven new arthritis medications recently approved in treating osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, two common types of arthritis. There will also be a demonstration of a PACE (People with Arthritis Can Exercise), an Arthritis Foundation land-based exercise class that will be starting in Southbury in the fall.

Arthritis affects an estimated 500,000 state residents. That number is expected to grow dramatically in the next two decades as baby boomers age, according to the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Centocor, Inc., has provided an unrestricted educational grant to Arthritis Foundation for the seminar.

Seating is limited. Pre-registration is required. For more information, contact the Arthritis Foundation at 800/541-8350 or SNEngland @arthritis.org.
