Lions Club Issues Trull Awards

By Larissa Lytwyn

Caitlin Weber, daughter of Jack and Kim Weber, and David Anderson, son of Carl and Nancy Anderson, received the Outstanding Juniors Trull Award from the Lions Club last week.

“We were nominated anonymously by teachers,” said Caitlin. The criteria, she continued, was based on a nominee’s overall quality as a student. This was not limited to academic achievement.

A member of Newtown High School’s cross country and track teams, Caitlin is also active in various community service programs. “I’m involved with the Guidance Honors Association,” she said. “Basically, it involves orienting freshmen to high school.” Caitlin also participates in activities sponsored by her church, Newtown United Methodist, and the Cyrenius H. Booth Library. “I also work at the library,” she said.

David Anderson is also a member of Newtown High School’s Guidance Honors Association. “I applied for the National Honors Society, too, but I wasn’t accepted this year,” he said. “A lot of the community service activities I’ve done are sports related, and the [society] was looking for service that was more diverse.” He added that he was planning to reapply the following year. David plays on Newtown High School’s basketball and golf teams and plans to pursue engineering or business when he prepares to apply for college in the future.
