Newtown Rotary Contributes To Ambulance Corps

Steve Rambone of the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps accepted a contribution from Newtown Rotary President Larry Nkabinde at a recent regular meeting of the Rotary at the Fireside Inn.

The ambulance corps has been serving the town of Newtown since 1940 and is primarily funded through private donations. The organization handles more than 1,800 calls per year, which averages out to four to five every day 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Most of the members work during the day and the corps is currently trying to recruit recently retired people who would be able to be available to volunteer during daytime working hours. Anyone interested in volunteering time to help others are urged to contact Deb Aubin at 426-6874. Daytime EMT classes are starting on February 21.

As Newtown continues to expand, the demands on the ambulance corps increases and the corps must continue to grow to meet the challenge. The corps provides all training and offer “ride alongs” to enable one to see what Newtown EMS is all about.
