Additional Auditions Saturday For Two Summer Shows At Richter

DANBURY — Musicals at Richter will hold a casting call for adult performers (age 21 and over) on Saturday, April 16, from 1 to 4 pm, at Richter Arts Center, 100 Aunt Hack Road in Danbury.

Those who have already auditioned during the general auditions (March 31-April 3) need not attend this call.

For Arthur Kopit and Maury Yeston’s romantic musical thriller Phantom, director Donald Birely is seeking candidates for the roles of Erik (The Phantom), a strong actor (20s-30s) with lyric baritone (F to F); Gerard Carrier, a strong actor (50s or older) with bass-baritone (B flat to E flat); Alain Cholet, a strong character actor (40s to 50s) with baritone vocal range; and Carlotta, a strong, elegantly comic character actress (40ish) with legit soprano (B flat to B flat).

For Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music, Mr Birely is also seeking candidates for the roles of Max Detweiler (baritone, low C to E) and Mother Abbess (soprano, low B to high A).

All those auditioning should bring a picture and resume if available, prepare two Broadway show tunes (uptempo and ballad), and be ready to sing only their best 16 measures if necessary. An accompanist will be provided.

Those auditioning should be prepared to read from the script if asked. These positions are unpaid.

Full show descriptions and cast breakdowns can be found on the theater’s website at www.MusicalsAtRichter.org.

In addition to performers, Musicals at Richter is still welcoming volunteers for backstage duties such as set construction, properties, costume coordination, and running crew; and front-of-house operations such as house management, ushering and concessions.

Interested individuals are invited to call or send email to the theater, or indicate interest at the auditions.

The 2005 season will open with Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning Into The Woods, June 16-July 2; Phantom, July 7-23; and The Sound of Music, July 28-August 13. The box office has not yet opened for the season, but additional information is available for those auditioning at 748-6873.
