Despite a shoulder injury and a medical condition that interferes with her breathing, Maggie Hemingway of Newtown excelled at the recent Connecticut Age Group Championships.

The injury and breathing difficulty may limit her training, but certainly don’t effect her competitive attitude or performance. Hemingway registered times of 2:34.05 and 1:11.25 in the 200- and 100-yard breaststrokes and finished 11th in the state.

Hemingway currently represents the Woodbridge Aquatic Club, which is coached by Dave Reilly.

“I’m going to have all the other swimmers watch her to see how a true competitor looks,” said coach Reilly. “If she was only healthy …”
