Gonzalo Saurez, Max Barry, Al Turner and Bob Reby will be vying for the Men’s Singles title this weekend at the annual Newtown Open – sponsored by the Newtown Tennis Association.

All semifinal matches will be held Saturday and all finals matches will be held on Sunday at Dickinson Park.

It all comes to a head in Men’s Open Singles, Men’s Open Doubles, Men’s 40 Singles, Men’s 40 Doubles, Men’s 55 Singles, Men’s 55 Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Women’s Open Singles, Women’s Open Doubles, Women’s 40 Singles and Women’s 40 Doubles.

In Men’s Open Singles Suarez will square off against Barry and Turner will battle Reby at 10:30 am on Saturday, with the winners to meet on Sunday at 10:30 am. In Men’s Open Doubles, the No. 1 seeded team of Bob Elliott and Owen Robertson was set to play the winners of the Dave Beauchemin/Roy Mirchandi and Colin Robertson/Forest Robertson match in the first semifinal. Shawn Stillman and Brad Harrington will face Gene Chappell and Val Stoiana in the other semifinal.

In Men’s 40 Doubles, the winner of the Al Turner/Ray Bucknam match will face Anthony Ditullio in the semifinals while No. 3 seed Greg Anderson will face Mariano Moran. In Men’s 40 Doubles, the No. 1 seeded Mariano Moran.Tom Nash team will face Larry Holtgrewe and Stephen Schwartz while the No. 2 seeded Steve Cornell, Ray Bucknam team will face Greg Anderson and Marc Swanson.

In Men’s 55 Singles, No. 1 seeded Elmer Adams will face Bob Comfort while Matt Franjola will face Rod Taylor. And in Men’s 55 Doubles, the No. 1 seeded team of Keith Butterfield/Rod Taylor will face Dom Nocturne and Alex Aitchison while Billy and Ferd Starbuck will face Fred Luedke and Wayne McCormack.

In Mixed Doubles, the No. 1 seeded team of Shirley Avril/Randy Saadeh will face Carol Lipnick and Dave Chapdelaine while the No. 2 seeded team of Ryan Adamonis/Lauren Dulton will face the winner of the Brenda Dye/Johnny Dye and Gene Chappell/Lorraine Chappell match/

In Women’s Open Singles, No. 1 seed Carol Lipnick will face Nancy Hamilton while Kris Royer will face Sandy Atanasoff. In Women’s Open Doubles, the No. 1 seeded team of Liz Shaker/Debra Turner will face Michelle Ovendorf and Kathy Winton while the No. 2 seeded team of Linda Fothe/Giuliana Montenegro will face Carol Duggan and Mary Martinik.

In Women’s 40 Singles, No. 1 seed Eileen Frattaroli will battle Lori Price while Debbie Birkins will face Judy Platt. And in Women’s 40 Doubles, the Debbie Birkins/June Frost team will face Susan Clark and Anna Zohn while the Polly Edwards/Trudy Meyer team will face Sui-Ying Wong and Joan Pagliuco.
