A Warm Thanks To Howard Lasher
A Warm Thanks To
Howard Lasher
To The Editor:
The eighth grade reading students and their teachers would like to publicly thank Mr Howard Lasher for the heartfelt, informative presentation he made at Newtown Middle School to commemorate the fifth anniversary of 9/11. Mr Lasher took time out of his busy schedule to speak to the students from his personal experience. Students sat intently, listening as Mr Lasher described the events of that day and answered their thoughtful questions.
Woven into his story was the meaning behind the painted flag trees that flank the entrance to his home in Newtown. Students nodded in appreciation as Mr Lasher revealed that the trees were painted as a living memorial for nine of his friends who perished in the World Trade Center on 9/11. Mr Lasher asked the students to always remember the people who died on 9/11. He then presented to the children a beautiful picture of his trees, which is now hanging in the foyer at Newtown Middle School.
The presentation was one of reflection and hope; we will never forget it. Our sincere thanks to Mr Lasher who is a friend to Newtown schools and whose story will be long remembered. How fortunate we are to have such a generous man in our community.
Sincerely,
Cathy Cincogrono
