Â
Boys
Newtown 6, Danbury 5: A sloppy victory was won by a tired Newtown on a late school-night game (hint-hint). Rockinâ Riley Rising and Nate the Great Sanchez vacuumed up ground balls, and goals were ripped by Austin LeBeast LeBlanc (2), Amazinâ Adam Weber (2), Electric Elliot Gregory (1) and David Anvil Anderson (1). Kenny Barbarian Barber, Colin McCruisinâ McCafferty, and Shockinâ Shawn McCarthy proved tough on the turf attacking the ball consistently. Defensive gurus Sean Wallopinâ Wallace and Slamminâ Sam Cox protected goalie Jack Wellman with speed and smarts.
Relax 3, Newtown 2: Newtown lost a nail-biter to a bruising Eelax team in another bedtime brawl, that left Newtown down despite heroic sacrifices by Evan Axe-Man Eggleston, Matt Booch-Bucci, Austin LeBlanc LeBeast, Colin McCruisinâ McCafferty and Shockinâ Shawn McCarthy. Eggleston and David Anvil Anderson each scored for Newtown with help from Ethan Hulk Hoffman, Rockinâ Riley Rising and the welcomed return of Nick Lancelot Lansing. Goalie Jack The Wall Wellman, AâO Cayden Dunn, Noah LaFear LeFerriere and Bad, Bad Cyril Brown held a tough defense, but time ran out before victory.
Trumbull 7, Newtown 5: Morning came early to a tired Newtown, who lost to an alert Trumbull squad. David Anvil Anderson netted 2, and Twin Towers Amazinâ Adam Weber (1) and Mad Max Weber (1) were alive, awake and enthusiastic tearing up the field with Shockin Shawn McCarthy also showing serious wheels. Electric Elliot Gregory, Ollie Wild Wood, and Nick Lancelot Lansing were speed demons; and Kenny Barber Barbarian stood ready, willing, and able for assists, ground balls, and shots on goal. Evan Axe-Man Eggleston and Rockinâ Riley Rising provided muscle when needed. Ethan Hulk Hoffman played with brains and brawl, ready for the defensive moves of Sean Wallopinâ Wallace, Noah LaFear LeFerriere, and AâO Cayden Dunn.
 Girls
Newtown 8, Ridgefield 3: Lexi Leidlein and Lizardo Hodge split the game in goal and held a tough Ridgefield squad to three goals. Cassidy Kortze lead Big Blue in ground balls. The goal scorers were Lu Hage, Dyzy Zahansky, Big Al Futterman, Rylee âOscarâ Mulligan and Lauren Carrino. A strong defensive performance was turned in by Kira Smith, Romy Gold and Julia âThe Assassinâ Haskins.
Newtown 11, Shelton 8: A physically imposing squad from Shelton put a scare into Big Blue. The Newtown girls fought back from a one goal deficit at the half to dominate play and regain the lead. The fifth graders clawed their way to a victory by clamping down on defense and applying consistent pressure to the Shelton D. Alex Futterman and Lizzie Hodge combined for 11 saves. The Newtown coaches used multiple defensive combinations to frustrate their larger opponents. Once the girls settled down they took over the ground game. Newtownâs superior passing game was evident with assists coming from six different players including Lauren Carrino, Rylee Mulligan, Lu Hage, Cassidy Kortze, Lexi Leidlein, and Hodge. Goal scorers were Charli Condon, Futterman, Dyzy Zahansky, Abby Pearson, Hage and Carrino. Julia Haskins led the team in ground balls. Brooke Varnum and Danielle Samson used their speed to frustrate the Shelton middies.
Longmeadow Tournament: The Junior Blue faced ferocious competition at the Longmeadow tourney. Although they didnât win a game the girls battled throughout the day. Newtown lost to two Longmeadow, Mass teams by the scores of 3-0 and 7-3. Longmeadow has a long lacrosse tradition and boasts one of the stronger girls lacrosse programs in the country. Newtown then dropped a 5-3 decision to a club team out of Adirondack, NY. The girls never gave in and, although hobbled by injuries, fought back in the final minute against Agawam, Mass to earn a hard fought 4-4 tie. The day was a success due to the superior competition the girls were able to experience and the effort they put forth.
Newtown 8, Stratford 1: The girls dominated the undermanned Stratford squad. Abby Pearson picked up seven ground balls and Rachel Tomasino and Hayley Lambert combined for 14 more. Alex Futterman was once again outstanding in goal by stopping 12 of 13 shots. Jemma Pettit, who played multiple positions hustled up and down the field all game long. Goal scorers were Jenna Carvahlo, Dylan Zahansky, Lu Hage, and Lauren Carrino. Aggressive defensive play from their midfield positions was exhibited by Charli Condon and Cassidy Kortze, Julia Haskins, Lexi Leidlein, and Kira Smith once again anchored the Newtown D.
