SALEM, MASS. — Tradewinds Antiques, a premier cane auction house, will present its 32nd all cane live auction Saturday, April 26, at the Salem Waterfront Hotel, commencing at 11 am, with preview from 9 to 10:45 am. This auction will marks Tradewinds’ 16th year of doing all cane auctions.

A sampling of highlights includes: a rare and important mid-Seventeenth Century English ivory, silver and enamel pique ($20/30,000); a California gold quartz cane owned by a mayor of San Francisco ($10/15,000); a Tiffany cane with gold, enamel and diamonds ($9/13,000); an outstanding carved whale ivory and whalebone cane with balls in chamber ($8/10,000); a historical Andrew Jackson gold presentation cane ($8/10,000); a German ivory hunting motif cane ($3,5/4,500); a fine ivory phrenology head ($4,5/6,500); and an English pique pomander dated 1692 ($6/8,000).

From Remington comes a scarce #2 percussion curio ($7,5/9,500) and a fine large dog head curio ($9/12,000).

Other highlights include a rare fire screen/sunscreen cane ($3,5/4,500), a circa 1690 ivory pique ($5,5/7,500) and an early Saint-Cloud porcelain tau ($3/4,000).

On Friday, April 25, at 6:30 pm, a special program and private auction preview will be offered at the Salem Waterfront Hotel. It will feature The Cane Gang, group of professional musicians from Maine who will entertain the audience with a program of music actually played on canes. Attendees are look at canes in an entirely different manner.

There is no charge for the event, nor are reservations required, but calls are appreciated so the facilities are prepared and refreshments ordered. Hors d’oeuvres will be served, and there will also be a cash bar.
