Destination Newtown Draws A Hungry Crowd, Dozens Of Businesses
As live music from various artists performing with the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission wafted above the heads of hundreds of visitors enjoying appetizers and networking, the Chamber of Commerceâs annual Destination Newtown opened for business.
And from all accounts, it was one of the most diverse and well-attended business events of the year in this suburban community.
Themed âPassion for Business: Spearheading Growth in Newtown,â the event was hosted by the chamber and sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank.Â
The Taste of Newtown seemed to be the big draw as visitors and participants jockeyed desserts and dinner samples on paper plates as they chatted at various booths throughout the Great Room at Newtown Congregational Church. In all, 11 local restaurants participated: My Place Restaurant, Tambascioâs Italian Grill, Blue Colony Diner, Chao Chao, Double Eagle Deli, The Villa, Sal e Pepe, Carminuccioâs, Katherineâs Kitchen, Mona Lisa, and Francoâs Pizza.Â
Along with featuring participating businesses, a souvenir program book detailed interesting facts about Newtown and teased attendees with trivia questions, as well as providing one lucky visitor a chance to win a Taste of Newtown sampler plate.Â
Additional highlights included several Cultural Arts group performers, raffles, tours of the Amazing Fun Bus, and Newtown VNA volunteers who came with healthy tips and information.
Supporters of the event included Title Sponsor Newtown Savings Bank; and Media Sponsors The Newtown Bee and The News-Times.
Prior to the eventâs official opening, a VIP reception was sponsored by Newtown Deli & Catering.
