Victorian Tea Will Help Seniors Catch A Better Ride
Victorian Tea Will Help Seniors Catch A Better Ride
A trio of Newtown residents has begun fundraising to help Newtown Senior Center purchase a new handicapped accessible bus.
âNewtownâs seniors have a leaky handicapped bus. It has been that way for several years despite the numerous attempts to repair it,â said LeReine Frampton. âThis vehicle needs to be replaced but didnât make it through the budget process.
âSo myself, Carol Mattegat, and Anna Wiedemann decided to start raising funds to help replace it.â
The kick-off event is a Victorian Tea to be held Sunday, May 15, from 1 to 3 pm, at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road.
Teas will be supplied by Simpson and Vail of Brookfield. Scones, finger sandwiches, and baked goods will be served with the tea. Sunday afternoonâs event will also include a silent auction.
Cost is $10 per person and seating is limited. To make a reservation or get more information, send an e-mail to 4fundraiser@gmail.com or contact Mrs Wiedemann at 203-426-1035.
Donations for the silent auction and volunteers are still welcome to come forward.
As part of their fundraising efforts, the group is also running a raffle. Prizes include queen-size quilt made by members of Newtown Senior Center, and prints donated by artists David Merrill and Michelle Rosenthal.
Tickets are $5 each and will be available at the May 15 Victorian Tea, and on May 28 during The Great Pootatuck Duck Race in Sandy Hook Center.
The raffle drawing will be June 20 at Newtown Senior Center.
