Last year NHS juniors Michaela Beaudry and Tim Ciavara mentored with Mr Aldrich. The students worked toward a deadline of having a video production of the first book in Mr Alrdrich’s series completed for an event highlighting The Poison Swamp at C. H. Booth Library.

The series follows the adventures of cartoon “architectural preservationists.” To create a DVD version of The Poison Swamp, Kenneth Lundquist, an actor and friend of Mr Aldrich, provided his voice and rounded up other actors to do the same. Mr Lundquist owns Wulf Lynx Studios, a video production company. Mr Lundquist’s technical assistant Randolph Zaini helped produce the video, according to a press release for the event last year.

Mr Aldrich said NHS junior Kurt Daum is working on the finishing touches to the video started last year.

Internships for Newtown High School students are provided through the school’s Career Center.

Once work on the video accompanying Mr Aldrich’s first book is completed, Kurt will continue fulfilling his 30-hour internship by working on a video to go with the second book, Decision at Dover, in Mr Aldrich’s series.

Once work on the video is completed, Mr Aldrich said he has plans to hold another night at C.H. Booth Library and adding the short film to a film festivals.

“It is very exciting for me to do this,” said Mr Aldrich, “and I think of it as topical, because I am interested in what I can do for job creation. To help young people get experience that allows them to go into something they love, is exciting for me.”

As a junior at NHS, Kurt said he has started looking at possible colleges to attend after graduation. He also said he hopes to work in the field of film for his career.

Recently Kurt and Mr Aldrich met at NHS to discuss the work on the project.

Kurt said he is excited to work with Mr Aldrich, “to get working on my portfolio and get out there.”

After working for the first day recently in Hartford, Kurt said his background in making short films has prepared him for this internship.
