Children’s Programs

*Holiday Sing-Along: Newtown singer, songwriter, Francine Wheeler, will lead children ages 2 to 5 in a holiday sing-along on Thursday, December 15, at 10 am. Francine’s magical voice is sure to get everyone in the holiday spirit. No registration is required. Copies of Francine’s CD Come Sit Beside Me will be available for purchase. Music makes a wonderful gift for the holidays.

“Theater Games” with acting teacher and director Twyla Hafermann-Kessler will offer a series of theater game workshops for children in grades K–3 on Mondays, January 9, 16, 23, and 30, from 4 to 5 pm in the children’s story hour room. The children will explore their creative side as they engage in a variety of interactive activities that focus on using their imagination through characters and role playing. Register for one or more of the workshops online.

 

YA Programs

*Creative Writing fiction group for young adults, grades 6–8, is forming now. Newtown author Wally Wood will lead the group on Tuesdays, January 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 (February 7 is a make-up date if necessary), from 6 to 8 pm. Signup is limited to ten students. Participants are expected to attend all five sessions. There is no fee. Sign up online.

 

Programs For Adults

*Searching For Jobs: Create A Resume: On Friday, December 9, from 9 to 11 am, Diane McKeever will teach up to ten students how to create and customize a resume using templates, save it to a flash drive (bring your own or borrow one to use during the class), upload, cut and paste, and attach it to an e-mail to send to job-hunting sites. Bring your own laptop or borrow one during the workshop.

Our Curator

*Betty Horton of Brookfield is lending her mother’s collection of Wedgwood china. Mary B. Horton’s collection of fine English china is on display until December 10 on the second floor. The exhibit features green, blue, and lavender Jasperware characterized by its matte appearance, which was considered Wedgwood’s finest achievement. Included are dinner plates, teacups, candleholders, and bowls. Also included are Nantucket Basketweave and bone china examples, three reference books about the history of Wedgwood, including a reprint of the Wedgwood and Bentley Catalog of 1779.
