Amanda Watson, above,  and Rhea Schneider of Newtown graduated from the Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall, on Sunday, June 3. Amanda plans to attend Elizabethtown College with Merit and music scholarships in the fall. During the school’s senior awards night ceremonies, Amanda was the recipient of the President’s Education Award. Rhea plans to attend Stonehill College, Easton, Mass., in the fall. During the school’s senior awards night, Rhea was awarded the Certificate of Excellence Study of Science, high honors for three consecutive quarters, the Franco Warde Service Award, the citizen’s award, and Stonehill College’s Presidential Scholarship.

Lillian Rodriguez of Newtown was named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at Alfred (N.Y.) University. Lillian is a sophomore in the School of Art and Design at the university. Students must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average at the university to qualify for Dean’s List.

Four local residents graduated from Marist College over the weekend of May 18. Meghan Barbour of Newtown received a bachelor of arts degree in communication, Diana Perachio of Newtown received a master’s degree in business administration, Daniel Rahmlow of Sandy Hook received a bachelor of science degree in business administration, and Zachary Varga of Newtown received a bachelor of arts degree in communication.

Charles Spath of Sandy Hook was named to the President’s List for the spring semester at State University of New York, Oswego. Students who achieve grade averages of 3.80 and above on the 4.00 scale are named to the President’s List at the college.

Alexandra Korchman of Newtown was named to the Dean’s List at New England College in Henniker, N.H., for the spring semester.

Nichols College in Dudley, Mass., held its 2012 graduation ceremonies on May 5, and Ryan Mauro of Newtown, earned a master of business administration degree during the ceremony.

Andrew P. Nichols of Newtown was named to the Dean’s List at Hamilton College for the spring semester. To be named to the Dean’s List at the college a student must carry a course load of four or more graded credits with an average of 3.5 or above.

Alexandra Caracciolo of Newtown, a junior majoring in finance in the Pamplin College of Business and Spanish in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, Blacksburg, Va., was selected to be a member of Who’s Who Among Students for 2012.

Newtown students listed on Southern Connecticut State University’s Dean’s List for the spring semester were Amanda Allain, Louis Belanger, Jake Devellis, Bret Leblanc, and Kayla Moore. Sandy Hook students listed on Southern Connecticut’s Dean’s List for the spring semester were Heather Hill-Young, Jack Hudak, Ashley Mancini, Jeanny Weinstein, and Evan Bentley.

Heather C. McGill of Sandy Hook received a bachelor of professional studies degree in management specializing in equine business management from Cazenovia (N.Y) College on May 12.

 Eastern Connecticut State University recently released its list of students that were named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester. Local students on the list were William Covill, Jessica Edwards, Kaila Harrington, and Tyler Rudolph of Newtown and Gregory Canzio, Marley Koschel, and Olivia Provey of Sandy Hook.

Sean Devaney of Sandy Hook, and Joseph Maggio of Newtown were named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at Salve Regina University, Newport, R.I.

Michael R. Iorfino of Newtown and Jillian S. D’Eramo of Sandy Hook graduated from Pennsylvania’s University of Scranton during a commencement ceremony on May 27.

Rachael A. Marlin of Sandy Hook, Marisa Kadar of Newtown, and Caitlin N. Tefft of Sandy Hook were named on the President’s List at Western New England, Springfield, Mass., each achieving a semester grade point average of 3.80 or higher. Named to Dean’s List at for the spring semester, achieving a semester grade point average of 3.30 or higher, were Chelsea E. Gray of Sandy Hook, Michael S. Poeltl of Newtown, and Gabriella C. Ruggiero of Sandy Hook.

Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, announced the Dean’s List for the spring semester 2012. To receive this honor, a student must achieve a 3.6 grade average, based on a 4.0 scale. On the list were Anita Dilisio, Molly Sheluck, and Alyssa Stendahl of Newtown, and Lauren Hanulik and Sara Pollock of Sandy Hook.

Nicholas Varga of Newtown was recently named to the Dean’s List at Hudson Valley Community College, Troy, N.Y., earning term grade point average between 3.0 and 3.5.

 Rachel K. Rockwell of Newtown received a degree from Clark University, Worcester, Mass., on Sunday, May 20. Rachel graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry.

 Ryan Korth of Newtown graduated from Pomfret School, Pomfret, during a commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 27.

Sean Ryan of Sandy Hook earned academic recognition at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., this spring when he was elected to membership in Skidmore’s Alpha Zeta Chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon, the international economics honor society that honors academic achievement in economics and encourages advancement in the field.

Stonehill College, Easton, Mass., named Sandy Hook resident Adam A. Horvath its Dean’s List for the Spring semester. To qualify, students must have a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better and must have completed successfully all courses for which they were registered.

 Timothy Kerr of Newtown graduated from Grove City (Penn.) College on May 19. Timothy earned a bachelor of arts degree in communication studies.

The 2012 Loomis Chaffee, Windsor, All School Awards Ceremony was held recently to honor more than 75 juniors and seniors, and one freshman, for academic, artistic, athletic, and community service efforts. Held in the school’s Olcott Center, the event was attended by the student body, faculty, staff, and families. Students receiving honors included Valerie Szabo, a senior from Sandy Hook, who received the Morris H. Brown Senior Theater Arts Prize.
