Childrenâs Programs
*Mother Goose on the Loose: A new program for children under age 2 and their parents, Mother Goose on the Loose is an award-winning early literacy program we will begin offering next month.
The 30-minute sessions include traditional rhymes, songs, music, movement, flannel board activities and simple books.
No registration is required. The program began April 1 and will meet weekly in the meeting room on Wednesday mornings at 10 through May 13.
Young Adult Programs
*Motherâs Day is Sunday, May 10: Bring your mom, grandmother or favorite aunt to see âPlays For Our Mothersâ at 3 pm, presented by The Mask & Wig Players.
This group of short plays includes a old-time radio melodrama and some creative fun. Mothers in the audience will also receive a special token from the Young Adult Council.
*Chess Club News: The Chess Club meets every Saturday afternoon from 1-5 on the third floor. All ages are welcome. Boards and pieces are provided. Drop in anytime.
*Chess Lessons: There is currently a waiting list for the next series of lessons, but please let us know if you would be interested in future classes.
For Families & Adults
*Great Fireside Reads â The Novel in the 19th and 20th Centuries: Study great authors who created tales with memorable characters, gripping plots, vividly detailed settings, and moral questions that are as relevant today as when they were first published.
Programs are led by Julie Stern. The reading and book discussion series will conclude with A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving on April 21.
*Wednesday Afternoon at the Movies: Our next screening, on April 22, will be Under The Bombs, an 86-minute film in French with subtitles.
During a cease fire during the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict, Christian taxi driver Tony brings Zeina, a Shiite woman from Beirut, to the heart of the conflict in the countryâs south. While they scour the rubble of the local towns for Zeniaâs son, they discover that despite their very different backgrounds they have much in common.
*SCAN Annual Juried Art Show: The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will present its 39th Annual Spring Juried Art Show from Saturday, April 25, through Sunday, May 3. A reception and awards ceremony â which is open to the public and will have many of the participating artists in attendance â will be Sunday, April 26, from 2 to 4 pm.
*Job Search Workshops: Cheryl Schwartz, MS, MSW, LCSW, CRC, who has been a consultant and coach to individuals and organizations for over 20 years, will offer be offering two more Job Search Workshops.
Each meets on a Thursday afternoon, from 3 to 4:30 pm. Please note the date for the second workshop, which was to have taken place this week, has been changed to April 30.
The April session, âJob Search Strategies,â will help attendees understand the current job market, offer methods of job search and self marketing, cover networking and contact development, and offer tips on the hidden job market.
Then on May 21 Cheryl will present âThe Interview,â with information on types of interviews, managing the interview, questions employers may ask, and even offer dos and donâts.
Registration is required for each workshop, which can be taken individually or as the full series, and can be done in person or online.
