Newtown’s Best Birthday Party

To the Editor:

What a fabulous birthday party Monday, September 5, was for Newtown. I’m glad that so many people came out to join in the celebration.

It seemed like one of the largest turnouts I can remember, partly no doubt, due to the great weather as well as the tercentennial, which seems to have brought out the community spirit in all of us. There are so many things that make Newtown a special place to live and the annual Labor Day Parade and all of you are at the top of my list.

Special thanks to the parade committee, our judges, our emcees, Dr Henry N. Gellert, Newtown Police, Newtown Ambulance, Tony Posca (Andrea’s) for the ten-foot birthday cake, our street directors led by Tom Murtha, Newtown Savings Bank, Newtown Exxon, Dunkin’ Donuts, Bagel Delight, our Grand Marshall Mary Hawley (Beth Cluff), Caroline Stokes ,and special thanks to The Newtown Bee for all your help and special support each year.
