Letter of Endorsement
To the Editor,
In 2008, I was inspired to get involved with a campaign for state representative. I'd been involved locally since before I was old enough to vote, but I knew running Chris Lyddy’s campaign was a chance to be part of something special. Being a part of his campaigns and working as his legislative aide at the General Assembly made it clear everyday how lucky Newtown was to have such an enthusiastic, dedicated and caring state representative. Chris showed me what a difference someone can make, how to be a true advocate, and what it means to listen to your constituents and carry their voices to Hartford. For those four years, Newtown was blessed with an energetic, thoughtful, and engaged state representative.
During my time in Chris' office, I had the pleasure of working with an intern from Newtown, Matt Cole. Like Chris, Matt is trained and educated as a social worker, and I was quickly impressed with his ability to listen thoughtfully, learn about issues by researching thoroughly and asking thoughtful questions, and work as a passionate advocate. Since then, I have seen this same thoughtful engagement from Matt in our community – at his church, and in the aftermath of 12/14 fighting for gun safety measures and more mental health resources. It is exciting and encouraging that Matt has decided to run for state representative!
This election season, Newtown will again have the chance to elect an engaged and energetic state representative, to return to the days when our state representative was a strong voice, a real leader, and a true advocate. If, like me, you believe our representation was better when Chris Lyddy was in office, and want to return to those times, I'd urge to your support Matt Cole when you head to the polls. You can learn more about Matt by visiting www.MattColeforthe106th.com – or talking to him when he comes to your door sometime soon! I’ll be voting for Matt Cole for state representative in November, and I hope you will too!
