Annual Drive For Christmas Gifts For Veterans Underway

BETHEL — Bethel Women’s Club is spearheading its annual community drive to collect much needed items for local veterans.

All items will be given as Christmas presents for the brave men and women who have fought for our freedom throughout the years and who now reside at The Vet House, Home for Heroes and those in long-term care. In addition to clothing, items such as slippers, gloves, DVDs and CDs, batteries and puzzle books are on their wish list. All gifts should be new, with original tags and packaging, and remain unwrapped. The runs until November 18.

Collection bins and complete lists of items needed are located at American Pride (273 Greenwood Avenue), Bethel Chamber of Commerce (184 Greenwood Avenue), English Apothecary (140 Greenwood Avenue), First Congregational Church (46 Main Street), St Mary’s  Church (26 Dodgingtown Road) Stony Hill Wine & Spirits and Snap Fitness (both within Big Y Plaza, 85 Stony Hill Road), True Value Hardware (211 Greenwood Avenue) and Wells Fargo (159 Greenwood Avenue), all in Bethel; as well as and UK Gourmet, 147 Mt Pleasant Road in Newtown.

On Saturday, November 17, a special Stuff-A-Van event will take place at Bethel United Methodist Church, 141 Greenwood Avenue, during its spaghetti dinner starting at 5:30 pm. Members of the women’s club will be on hand to accept cash donations and other items.
