Rounding The Bases — Baseball Highlights

10-Year-Olds

Red Baron Carpet 12, Hull Landscaping 8: Red Baron’s hitting was led by an out-of-the-park grand slam off the bat of Tommy Elliott in the first inning. Nick Brereton had a single and a key RBI in the third. Chris Blanco had two triples and two RBI and Kelland Chrystie had a double, single and 3 RBI. Jake Lapp and Jack Moulder both had 3 strikeouts in each of the innings they pitched. For Hull Landscaping, Mike  Meyers had 3 hits, including a double. Cole Terry and Peter Clifford each had a hit. Brian Gallagher and Mike Meyers pitched 2 excellent innings each.

Mobil One Lube Express 9, ONEX 5: For ONEX, Dylan Tyrrell pitch three strong innings allowing only one hit while not surrendering a run. Offensively, Spencer Johnson and Luke Reppucci each reached base four times. Johnson tripled while Zach Laros collected a hit to lead the ONEX offense. Mobile One got strong pitching from Geoffrey Santore and Thomas Gavel. At the plate, Keiran Lynch, Samantha Cody and Ryan Norton helped chalk up the win.

Huskies 11, Rohrbacher Construction 11: Rohrbacher Construction rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game in an 11-11 tie, the third tie of the season for the Huskies. Shawn Fulton was 3-for-3 with 4 runs scored, Tom Cotton reached base four times and scored twice and Charles Soto had a key RBI single while Colin Patrick provided 2 2/3 innnings of solid relief pitching for the Huskies. Carlo Fenaroli was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored, Ryan Shaw had a triple and 3 RBI, Matt Davis was 1-for-2 with 3 runs scored and Brandon Hensel was 2-for-3 for Rohrbacher Construction.

ONEX 13, Red Baron Carpet 6: Zach Laros had three hits, including a double, while leading ONEX to victory over Red Baron Carpet. Also contributing to the offense were Timmy LeBlanc with two hits while Tucker Kistner and Matt Carino each roped doubles into the outfield. Defensively for ONEX, Luke Reppucci threw out a runner at third base from his right field position, Carino made a diving catch on a fly ball into left field and Spencer Johnson struck out five batters over three innings while allowing three runs. For Red Baron, River Low, Robert Katrinak and Chris Blanco all had 2 hits apiece and Connery Mayer scored two runs.

Hull Landscaping 17, Mobil One Lube Express 3: Mike Meyers and Justin Hull had 2  hits apiece including a double each. Matt Kugler, Austin Kasbarian and Hunter Booker also added a hit apiece. The “Lubers” were led by Geoffrey Santore, Michael Schlesinger and Grant Untietd.

Addessi Jewelers 15, LaDestro Legal Services 1: Great pitching from Matt Gerics, Andrew Lee, Jake Oliger and Matt St. Jean lifted Addessi. The pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts over 5 innings.  Justin Gillespie and Jake Oliger each went 2-for-3. Joe Accousti had a hit for LaDestro.LaDestro Legal Services 11, Red Baron Carpet 6: Jamie Cochrane, Austin LeBlanc and Matt Stewart combined for four shutout innings while Lucas LaDestro, Jimmy Craig and Matt Stewart contributed with key hits. Jamie Cochrane and Sean Ferris played great defense at shortstop. For Red Baron, key hits included a triple by Robert Katrinak, a double by Jake Lapp for 2 RBI and 2 singles and a double off the bat of Jack Moulder.

Onex 10, Rohrbacher Construction 0: Dylan Tyrrell broke open the game during the third inning with a bases-clearing 3-RBI triple. Mitchell Savoca collected three hits, including a double, while Andrew Hubina hit a triple to help pace the ONEX offense. Savoca, Tyrrell and Spencer Johnson combined to pitch a one hitter, while striking out 10  batters, over 5 innings. Other defensive standouts were Matt Carino making four putouts in the field and catcher Jack Riley throwing out a would-be base stealer at third base.

Newtown Ravens 12, Newtown Roche International 8: Parker Lintz pitched four brilliant innings for the Ravens. Only two base runners reached base against Lintz during the first three innings. Teammates Ryan Truchsess, Michael Koch and Ian Kirner each knocked in two runs. Koch crushed a long double to left-center to score Nicky Sajovic and James Rebman in the second inning. Truchsess hit a hard RBI single to right-center in the third inning that scored Brandon Cooper, and then smacked a line-drive double to right-center that scored Lintz the next inning. The Ravens jumped out to a 1-0 first-inning lead when Ben Stoller, in his first at-bat of the season after recovering from a broken finger, drilled a hanging curveball into left field to score Cole Baldino, who had walked and stolen second. Sajovic had three singles for the Ravens, lifting his batting average over .500. At second base, he also made a clutch game-ending catch with a tremendous back-handed stab on a ball smashed up the middle with the bases loaded. Cooper had an excellent game behind the plate. For Roche International, Alex Saviano and Nick Barreto each slashed two singles. Alex Roche and Mario Pizighelli had singles. Barreto and Eric Sutton each scored a pair of runs. Trailing 12-5 in their last at-bat, Roche International made a valiant comeback effort, sending nine batters to the plate and scoring three runs.

Newtown Pirates 8, Newtown Base Technologies 7: Colton Sposta led the Pirates to victory last week at Newtown Middle School Field. Sposta had four hits and four RBI, and three shutout innings on the mound. Behind him, shortstop David Gerics converted a stream of ground balls into outs. Sean Dardine smacked two hits, including a double, and knocked in two runs. Collin Hall singled and drove in the lead run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Pitcher Ryan Daignault spun a scoreless first inning. He then returned in the seventh inning to close the game, stranding the tying run at first as Gerics fired the ball across the diamond to end the game. Joey Fellin played a solid game in the outfield. For Base Tech, Gary Braun, Wyatt Dupuy and Austin Ekstrom each clubbed two hits.
