Exchange Student Hosts Needed
Foreign high school students are scheduled to arrive soon for the academic semester and yearlong home stays, and Pacific Intercultural Exchange is looking for local families to host these students.
The foreign exchange students who are coming to the area are between the ages of 15 and 18, are English-speaking, have their own spending money, carry accident and health insurance, and are anxious to share their cultural experience with American families, according to PIE Executive Director John Doty.
For the upcoming programs, PIE has students from several countries including Spain, Germany, Latvia, the former Soviet Union, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Mongolia, Italy, and Vietnam. PIE is a non-profit educational organization that has sponsored more than 18,000 students from 40 countries. The organization is designated by the United States Department of State and is listed by the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel, certifying that the organization complies with the standards set forth.
Newtown area families interested in learning more about student exchange or arranging for a meeting with a community representative may call PIE tool-free at 800/631-1818.
