BETHEL – With losses to Danbury and New Fairfield last week, the Newtown Babe Ruth 9-Year-Old All Stars were eliminated from the Bethel Jimmy Fund Tournament. But they quickly regrouped and headed off for the Cal Ripken Tournament at Rogers Park in Danbury.

On Monday, Newtown used superb pitching by Michael Coates and Joe Fedak (who combined for 13 strikeouts) to down Bethel, 8-4. Jeff Spencer, Jeff DiNicola and Nicky Tarantino also provided some timely hits for Newtown, which had to overcome a 3-1 deficit.

Newtown was set to play South Norwalk on Wednesday (after press time).
