Amy Schumann, Reference Department Head of the C.H. Booth Library, led a young adult Succulent Mini Garden workshop outside on the library’s patio area to launch its summer programming on Saturday, June 15.

Students entering grades six through twelve were invited to design their own succulent gardens using a variety of small succulents, natural rocks, multi-colored glossy stones, special succulent soil, and decorative accent pieces — like small plastic dinosaur figurines.

Ms Schumann said the items provided were available courtesy of the Friends of the C.H. Booth Library, in support of the library’s programs.

Participants followed Ms Schumann’s tutorial on the order of how to assemble each element, but each were encouraged to customize their mini-garden to their style preference. Some teens chose to keep their gardens natural looking, while others used whimsical colored rocks and figurine creatures.

Ms Schumann also gave instructions for daily upkeep when they take their gardens home and explained that succulents needs less watering than the average house plant.
