Retract Toy
HARTFORD (AP) â Kellogg Co has agreed to stop shipments of cereal boxes to Connecticut that contain a âSpidey Signalâ toy, because its mercury batteries violate state environmental laws.
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal threatened earlier this week to go to court to get the company to remove the products from store shelves. He had also threatened to pursue legal action against stores that sold the cereal.
The Battle Creek, Mich.-based cereal company confirmed the agreement, which also requires that it ask retailers to return cereal boxes that contain the toy. The Kelloggâs promotion was timed with the premiere of the anticipated summer blockbuster Spider-Man 2, which debuted in theaters June 30.
