Drug Center, Curtis Packaging Win âBusiness Of The Yearâ Awards
The Newtown Chamber of Commerce and the Newtown Rotary Club announced the recipients of the Second Annual Business of the Year Award ceremony over dinner on March 7 at the Fireside Inn.
Two awards were presented. Category One represented companies operating with 25 or fewer employees and included three finalists, Avance Esthetiques, The Drug Center, and Bob Tendler Real Estate (Coldwell Banker). After citations of the many contributions offered by each of the finalists, the honor was bestowed upon The Drug Center.
The Drug Center was noted for its support of more than 25 organizations and causes including, but not limited to, Boy and Girl Scouts, six clubs organized by Newtown High School, Hospice, Catholic Charity Ball, Newtown Congregational Church Nursery School, and Family Counseling Center.
Category Two represented companies operating with more than 25 employees and included three finalists, The Gym at Newtown, Ashlar of Newtown, and Curtis Packaging. Again, citations of the many contributions offered by each of the finalists were delivered before the honor was bestowed upon Curtis Packaging. Curtis Packaging was noted for its support of many of the organizations in and out of town, most notably its contribution to the townâs annual tree lighting event with the design and production of all the luminaria bags that line Main Street.
The award has been established as a means of recognition for those businesses in town that contribute considerably to the town community, either by means of donations or volunteerism. Nominations were submitted by members of both the chamber and the Rotary Club. Finalists and honorees were determined by the award committee, which included Pat Linnell of Linnell Real Estate and Frank Gavel of Raymond James Financial Services representing the chamber and Brian Amey of Bank of America and Alan Clavette of Clavette Josselyn & Co. representing the Rotary.
In addition to the finalists, the following organizations were also nominated: Caldwell & Walsh, Newtown Computer and Financial Services, Union Savings Bank, Firehouse Bar and Restaurant, Richard Coopersmith at Newtown Chiropractic, and Amaral Motors.
