Time To Recycle Techno-Trash

Spring is here and what normally follows is spring cleaning. The staff at CTV-21 (the community television station at Charter Communications) has come up with a new idea for old videotapes.

CTV-21 recognizes the shift in technology to all things digital: music, video, DVDs, iPods. These are all positive changes, but left in the dust among last year’s techno-gadgets are plenty of videotapes. Charter Communications will pay the cost of collecting, removing, and recycling these unwanted, nonbiodegradable items by working with GreenDisk (GreenDisk.org), an environmentally conscious company that will securely dispose of recorded information by bulk erasing, then break down each tape to be used in the manufacture of new products.

Residents are encouraged to drop off old tapes at the Charter Communications building at 11 Commerce Road in Newtown. Tapes can be dropped off at any time during April, but advance notice is requested; call 304-4050.
