HIRSCH PERLMAN WORKS ON VIEW AT ROBERT MILLER GALLERY IN NYC

avv/gs set 10/11 #715562

NEW YORK CITY — Robert Miller Gallery presents an exhibition of works by Los Angeles-based artist Hirsch Perlman through November 24. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition in New York since “Projects 54” at The Museum of Modern Art in 1996. The selection surveys the absurd and mournful work that Perlman has completed since his participation in the 2002 Whitney Biennial.

The current exhibition presents photographs, silkscreens and installation. These works, part sculpture and part performance, are recorded in their final form in long exposure black and white photographs. (In one notable exception color has been added.)

The silkscreen series “Schrodinger Cats” is named after the Austrian physicist’s thought experiment that uses a cat to illustrate the paradoxical nature of quantum mechanics. An installation presents an independently published, unlimited run of the US Army’s Counterinsurgency Manual, offered for sale.

Perlman was born in 1960 and is a graduate of Yale University. He is associate professor and area head of the sculpture department at UCLA. Perlman has exhibited at museums including The Museum of Modern Art, New York City; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York City; Drammens Museum, Drammens, Norway; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; and PS1, New York City.

The gallery is at 524 West 26th Street. For information, www.robertmillergallery.com or 212-366-4774.
