avv/gs set 10/10 #715194

GREENWICH, CONN. — The Greenwich Antiques Society will present a lecture, “The Art of Rene Lalique,” at the Bruce Museum given by Nicholas M. Dawes, vice president of live auctions and acquisitions at Mastro Auctions, on Monday, November 5, at 1:15 pm; tea to follow.

Since 1882, the famous French name of Lalique is synonymous with creative and fine glass design of perfume bottles, vases, jewelry, chandeliers, clocks and automobile hood ornaments for Bentley and Bugatti.

Recognized as one of the world’s greatest glass makers and jewelry designers of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, Lalique’s admirers included George VI of England, Sarah Bernhardt, Liza Minelli, Madonna and others.

Considered a leading authority on works by Rene Lalique, Dawes’ books include Lalique Glass, published by Crown in 1986. Formerly with Phillips and Sotheby’s, Dawes has been a faculty member at Parsons School of Design since 1983. Dawes curated the popular exhibit, “Lalique: A Century of Glass for a Modern World,” which toured several museums over three years. He has been an expert appraiser for Antiques Roadshow since its inception.

The museum is at 1 Museum Drive. For reservations, call 203-869-9531 or 914-631-9439. Nonmembers pay $15.
