Marching Nighthawks Tie Cheshire For First Place

There were four bands competing in the Class IV marching band competition in Trumbull, at Trumbull High School, on October 4, but the real competition was between two undefeated bands: Cheshire and Newtown. Cheshire was the expected winner, but the Newtown Nighthawks Marching Band and Guard stepped up and shocked Cheshire by performing its best show of the season. The Marching Nighthawks tied Cheshire for first place with a score of 86.35, and the Nighthawks earned a special award for Outstanding Music. Band members celebrated for more than an hour before leaving the stadium.  The band will not be competing next week, but Newtown High School will host the Grasso Festival on October 18, and the Nighthawks’ Band and Guard will play an exhibition at Newtown High School starting around 2 pm.
