Strawberry Festival Returning This Weekend
MONROE â Monroe Congregational Church will host its 38th Annual Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 13, from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, June 14, from noon to 5 pm, on the Monroe Green, Route 111.
The festival follows a tradition started in the late 1800s. Freshly picked strawberries are served in strawberry shortcake, whole berry pies, smoothies, and chocolate dipped creations. There is always have strawberry jams, jellies, and breads, as well as special strawberry souvenir items.
In past years over two tons of berries have been used in the delectable creations. Nearly 1,800 pounds of the strawberries used are hand picked locally at Jones Family Farm in Shelton.Â
The church will also be serving hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch.
There will be inexpensive games for children and live entertainment too.
Over 100 juried crafters and fine artists from the East Coast will be selling handmade items and paintings. Shop for flowers, clothing, fine art, jewelry, furniture, glass, pottery, crafts of wood and metal and much more.
There is no admission fee and parking is free. Follow Route 111 to the Monroe Green.
