Carol Ritchie
Carol Ritchie, wife of Ron Ritchie, formerly of Sandy Hook, died on June 2 in Charleston, S.C., after a short illness.
Mrs Ritchie, a retired Newtown High School teacher, taught English, government and economics from 1984 to 1996. In addition, she was the faculty advisor to the Leadership Council for a number of years as well as the coordinator of the Up Close Foundation at the school. In her latter role she accompanied students to a week in Washington where the participants were afforded a first-hand exposure to the federal government.
Following her retirement, she and Ron moved to Kiawah Island, S.C., in 1997. She subsequently became involved in many civic organizations in her new locale and also served as a volunteer garden guide at Middleton Place, one of the historic plantations in the Charleston area.
Mrs Ritchie is also survived by two sons, Eric and his wife, Suzanne, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Craig (NHS Class of 1986) and his wife, Amy, of Katonah, N.Y., as well as six grandchildren.
