Young Sluggers Star On Diamonds

Brandon Marks and Pat Mullins, juniors at Newtown High School, recently competed in the 16U BCS National Championship baseball tournament in Fort Myers, Fla. The tournament is one of the elite AAU baseball tournaments in the country.

The boys competed with their summer team, Xpolsion, out of Trumbull. Facing teams from all over the country, the Xplosion went 2-3-1. Marks pitched in two games and hit three doubles to lead the team. Mullins led the team in runs batted in and batting average, hitting .500 in the tournament. Mullins also had a complete game victory on the mound in a 4-1 victory. The baseball players are products of Newtown Cal Ripken Baseball and have been playing together since their ten year old all star season.
