Unsafe And Nearly Impassable
Unsafe And Nearly Impassable
To the Editor:
As of November 4 (5½ days after the storm), Sugarloaf Road, a popular cut-through from Route 34 to Toddy Hill, still has power lines laying across the road. These are electrical lines, not phone or cable. The road also has a tree laying on a power line hanging over the road. People continue to drive through, running over the downed lines and under this dangerous tree. I called this in on Wednesday night, and was told someone âwould be out to look at it.â However, nothing has changed. At a minimum this road should be closed! One would think that the first priority would be to get the downed wires out of the road. I can live without power, but I canât believe this continuing disregard for public safety. At 5½ days out from the storm, I donât think itâs unreasonable to expect that the power lines should be out of the street.
There are examples of this type of situation all over town. Swamp Road was rendered unsafe and nearly impassable by the storm, but it was not closed until Tuesday afternoon. Does it really take three days for someone to come put out some traffic cones and a sawhorse? Iâm hoping that The Bee will look into this and the multiple other unresolved safety issues.
