Theodore E. Palmer

A Kind And Gentle Man

Theodore E. “Ted” Palmer, 88, of Wallingford, devoted husband of Rachel (Rae) Palmer for 69 years, died April 3. Born on June 1, 1920, in Providence, R.I., Mr Palmer spent his young adult life there where he met his beloved wife and married her in 1940.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children and their spouses, including Jeannette and Eugene Luchansky of Newtown; as well as three grandchildren.

Mr Palmer was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Navy in the South Pacific on the troop transport USS LaPorte. He was awarded four decorations during his tour of duty.

He was employed for more than 40 years in the building supply industry and was an accomplished woodworker and craftsman. He was affectionately referred to as “Rube Goldberg” by his children for the many clever gadgets he created from seemingly unrelated parts.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the caregivers at Mid-State Hospital and the Masonic ACU for the excellent care and attention Mr Palmer received while a patient there.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 11, at 11 am, at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Extension, Wallingford.

Memorial donations may be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago IL 60601.
