Vipers Win Tournament
The Newtown Vipers, a U11 soccer team coached by Peter DâAmico, captured the Memorial Day Tournament title at the end of May.
The weekend began with a 6-3 win over Easton/Redding on May 25. The next morning, the Vipers played to a scoreless tie with the Fairfield Barracudas.
The team then participated in the dedication ceremony at the Newtown Youth Academy for the Veteranâs Memorial Garden.
On May 27 they defeated Bethel 3-1. The championship game took place that same day and the Vipers defeated Easton/Redding again, this time by a 2-0 count.
The boys played hard and executed spectacular passing throughout the weekend. Goalies Travis Huzina and Thomas Hartley made some key saves. Forwards Bryce Bisset, AJ Friesl, Owen Sullivan, and Dylan Sock played aggressively up front, and scored multiple goals.
Defensive players Jack McDermott, Sean Arnold, Danny Schreiber, Jack Dooley, and Harvey Long combined to fend off scoring attempts by the other teams. This past weekend, the Vipers also came away with two additional victories, one against Wilton and the other against a tough Stamford team.
