REDDING â On Saturday, June 16, at 3 pm, local historian Dan Cruson will give a talk about his 2011 book, Putnamâs Revolutionary War Winter Encampment: The History and Archaeology of Putnam Memorial State Park, which details the history of the state park from the 1778-79 Revolution War encampment of 3,000 Colonial troops in what is now Putnam Park â frequently referred to by local historians as âour Valley Forge,â comparing it to the brutal winter suffered by Revolutionary troops under the command of General George Washington in 1777 â to the present
The book was the result of 12 years of research that began in 1998, and also represents the 12th book concerning the Fairfield County region by the Newtown historian. It was published last November.
The talk will be in the Visitors Center of the park, at the junction of Routes 107 and 58. Copies of the book will be available and a book signing will follow the talk.
