Choose Wisely
Choose Wisely
To the Editor:
My name is LeReine Frampton, and I am the Democratic registrar of voters. My name is not on the primary ballot. The registrar of voters is chosen a little differently than other political positions.
State law says that each town must have a Democratic registrar and a Republican registrar. We are nominated by the party at a caucus held in May. If no one challenges us by petition we go straight to the November ballot. There is no room on the November ballot for an additional Democrat or Republican. Since no one challenged me, I will be on the November ballot and will continue to be the Democratic registrar for the next four years.
The Republicanâs position is being challenged so when the primary is over we will know who the Republican registrar will be. Usually a candidate has to win a primary and then win in November to hold office. The registrars just have to get through the primary to earn their place on the November ballot and then state law guarantees them a position.
So I am asking the Republicans to please choose wisely on the August 14. You will be choosing the woman I will be working with for the next four years.
I look forward to seeing you at the polls.
Sincerely,
LeReine Frampton
