The Newtown Foundation is seeking donations of books in like-new or new condition that are an appropriate reading level for elementary age school children.

Volunteers from the Newtown Foundation will deliver books to the Savoy Elementary School in Washington, DC, prior to the second annual vigil for victims of gun violence, at the National Cathedral on Thursday, December 11.

In commemoration of the second anniversary of 12/14, as well as the 60,000 American victims of gun violence since December 2012, The Newtown Foundation is joining Faiths United to Prevent Gun Violence, States United to Prevent Gun Violence, Washington National Cathedral and allies from across the United States for the vigil service of mourning and remembrance for all those who have fallen victim to the ongoing epidemic of gun violence in America.

The Elementary School Book Drive, a Second Annual Newtown Acts of Kindness Event, will benefit the academic intervention and literacy programs at that school.

Many children at Savoy Elementary School are at risk, because they do not have access to books outside of school. The book drive will enable these children to attend a book fair at school, where they can fill a bag with books, before they go on holiday break.

Donations of books, or checks for books, may be dropped off at Wishing Well, 107 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook, between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday, by December 7.

Checks should be made out to The Newtown Foundation, with “book drive” in the memo line. For more information, contact eviansf@gmail.com.

The Newtown Foundation will host a breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, September 12, to funds for the 3rd Annual National Vigil for All Victims of Gun Violence.
