Waldorf May Fair Festival Is May 5
Maypole dancing, childrenâs games, and country fiddling are just a sampling of what festival-goers will find at this yearâs May Fair Festival hosted by the Housatonic Valley Waldorf School Association. Come rain or shine, the tenth annual celebration will take place at the Housatonic Valley Waldorf School, located at 40 Dodgingtown Road on Route 302 in Newtown, on Saturday, May 5, from 11 am to 3 pm.
Old-fashioned family fun is guaranteed all day long, including sheep shearing, face painting, spring songs, flower crown making, games for the young and old, and the ever-popular Maypole dancing.
There will be live acoustic music throughout the day featuring Ed Witkin of Bridgewater on banjo and guitar. A potluck luncheon will be served, so it is suggested that festival participants bring their favorite healthful food and a picnic blanket.
âThe May Fair is a joyful celebration of natureâs springtime gifts. Singing, dancing and feasting are age-old ways of ushering in a new season, and it brings great pleasure to keep these traditions,â Administrator Melissa Merkling said. âIt is important for children to have a relationship to seasonal festivals â these turning points in the cycle of the year, which helped our ancestors mark the passage of time.â
The May Fair Festival is free and open to all. For directions and more information about the festival call 203-364-1113.
