With a 7-3 win over Motts, Wisvest won the Newtown Babe Ruth 14-15 Division championship last week.

Wisvest sailed undefeated through the double-elimination tournament, beating Poland Springs, Brookfield 1, and Motts along the way. Alex Meisel started every game and received solid relief helpd from Max Rojo and Taylor Schmitt.

Wisvest outscored its opponents 37-13 in the tournament.

Other players contributing included Jeff Levasseur, Gary Andrews, Brian Poeltl, Sean Canfield, Dave Villareal, Dan Kirk and Casey Gilbert.

For Motts, Jon Larsen, Bryan Fogelstrom, and Shane Huebner played well.

Motts reached the finals with an extra-inning win over Executive Landscaping (8-7) and a win over Swiss Army (8-6). A 12-2 loss to Wisvest earlier in the tournament had dropped Motts into the loser’s bracket, forcing the team to beat Wisvest twice in the championship round in order to win the title.

In the win over Executive Landscaping, Fogelstrom was 3-for-4 while Huebner banged out three hits. Larsen, Ryan Martin, Jim Wilkins and James Dahlgaard played well. In the win over Swiss Army, Ryan Martin and Pete Oggeri powered the offense while Seth Hull pitched a complete game. Billy Beatty and Jeff Fulton were solid on defense.
