Rep Hovey Appointed To Panel

HARTFORD –– State Rep DebraLee Hovey, R-112th District, has been appointed to the American Legislative Exchange Council’s Commerce and Economic Development Task Force.

“I asked to be named to this group because I am especially concerned about Connecticut’s economic future,” said Rep Hovey, an ALEC member who attended the council’s 2003 Spring Task Force Summit March 28–29 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Rep Hovey represents Monroe and part of Newtown.

“As a member of this task force, I plan to discuss with other state legislators from around the country ideas for legislative initiatives that will help our state emerge as quickly as possible from its current economic slump,” she said.

The Commerce and Economic Development Task Force develops policies to enhance competitiveness, promote employment, encourage innovation and increased efficiency, and limit the regulations that government imposes on business. The task force develops model legislation to facilitate the implementation of these policies in the states, and educates ALEC members through meetings, issue papers, issue briefings, and special workshops.

With nearly 2,400 members, ALEC is the nation’s largest bipartisan, individual membership association of state legislators.
