213 Accidents Reported During Holiday Weekend
State police report that during the 72-hour July 4 holiday weekend, including July 4, 5, and 6, they responded to a total 213 motor vehicle accidents in the state.
Of those accidents, two were fatal accidents, 54 accidents involved injuries, and 157 accidents had no injuries.
State police also made 48 arrests for driving under the influence. During that period, state police made 1,251 speeding arrests and 284 arrests for failure to wear seatbelts.
State police used added personnel on patrols during the heavily traveled period. During the summer, state police will conduct sobriety checkpoints at certain locations, as well as conduct targeted patrols in an effort to keep the roads safe, according to state police spokesman Sergeant J. Paul Vance.
