Reed School Making Progress

By Larissa Lytwyn

Paul Haynes, co-owner of Haynes Construction, presented an update on Reed Intermediate School during the September 9 school board meeting, estimating that the carpet installation and replacement of fire retardant wood necessary to complete the school’s outside canopy should be completed by mid-October.

“The original wood delivered was very wet and not usable,” said Grounds and Maintenance Supervisor Dominic Posca.

Until the canopy is finished, the school will maintain its temporary certification of occupancy. It cannot gain a permanent certification until the canopy is complete.

Mr Posca expressed disappointment that carpeting removed due to mold concerns at the beginning of the summer had still not been replaced. “The company we’re working with, Haynes Construction, was supposed to have it done by the beginning of the school year,” he said.

Mr Haynes assured the school board that the carpeting needed for two remaining classrooms and a main corridor would be delivered shortly and installed over the next few weeks.
