Figure Painter At Next SCAN Meeting

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Beverly Branch demonstrating in acrylic on Wednesday, April 14, at 7:30 pm. This meeting and program is open to the public and will be at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown. All are welcome and admission is free.

A resident of Bethel, Beverly Branch has received much attention with her rich and contemporary figure paintings. Inspired by Degas, Cassatt, and the 19th Century muralists, Ms Branch paints women as timeless vessels of lyrical grace. Her sun-drenched subjects are often lush and earthy, yet speak of the divine. Collectors of Ms Branch’s recent work find that her figures bring to their mind mother, sister, friend, healer, or angel.

Beverly Branch graduated from Paier School of Art in Hamden in 1973. She was the recipient of the Urban Arts Initiative Grant by the CT Commission for the Arts in 1999, a three-year program. Recently she participated in juried shows with SCAN and The Mark Twain Library in Redding.

She designed three life-size cows for Cows on Parade in Stamford and won a Best in Show at The Bruce Museum in Greenwich.
