Photographs Of The Bushnell Carousel Celebrate A Hartford Landmark

BRISTOL — Dr Edward Dubrow of Phoenix, Ariz., on frequent trips to Hartford visit his mother and late father, studied and photographed the Historic Bushnell Park Carousel in Hartford over a six-year period. Dr Dubrow has created a remarkable series of black and white and color photographs of the 90-year-old landmark managed by the New England Carousel Museum, a nonprofit organization located in Bristol.

An exhibition of his work, “Bushnell Park: A Carousel in Motion,” has opened in the fine art gallery of The Bristol Center for Arts and Culture at the carousel museum.

Mr Dubrow has generously donated his collection of photographs to the New England Carousel Museum. The sale of his work will benefit the educational programs offered at the museum, at the Historic Bushnell Park Carousel, and as outreach.

The 29 prints in the exhibition, which extends to October 4, capture the carousel’s movement through double exposure techniques perfected by Dr Dubrow. His purchase of a rare Nikon fisheye lens resulted in the unique fisheye views of the carousel in motion.

The New England Carousel Museum is hosting the National Carousel Convention September 29 to October 3. The Dubrow exhibit will be on display when carousel lovers around the country visit Connecticut to enjoy the area carousels and the Carousel Museum.

The Bristol Center for Arts and Culture houses The New England Carousel Museum and the Fire History Museum at 95 Riverside Avenue, Route 72 West. The museum is home to one of the largest collections of carousel pieces in the country.
