Childrenâs Events
*Childrenâs Story Time: Story hour registration for the next series of story times for children ages 2 to 5 will take place January 20-29.
Children must be at least 2 years old before the start of the session on February 7. Three classes are offered for 2-year-olds and their caregivers on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday morning from 10 to 10:30.
Classes for 3-5 year-olds are offered on Tuesdays from 11 to 11:45, and Wednesday and Thursday from 1 to 1:45.
Only Newtown residents are eligible for this free program.
Young Adults
*Letâs Talk About: When Zachary Beaver Came to Town by Kimberly Willis Holt will be the focus of our next young adults book discussion.
Jan 12, Letâs Talk About, 4 pm, one-hour book discussion will concern When Zachary Beaver Came To Town by Kimberly Willis Holt.
Join us in the Story Room on Wednesday, January 12, from 4 to 5 pm, to discuss this book about 13-year-old Toby and his best friend Cal, who meet the star of a sideshow act, 600-pound Zachary, the fattest boy in the world.

*Budding theatrical writers wanted! Playstages 2005 Playwriting Contest has been announced.
Students in grades 3-9 can submit scripts as individuals or teams. This national contest awards two grand prizes of $500 each and recognizes many other scripts as well. Submission deadline is February 15, 2005.
*Creative Writing: A fiction writing workshop will be offered for young people in grade 6 and up beginning January 24. This is the second creative writing program of the 2004-05 year, and will be led by professional writer and teacher Wally Wood, a Newtown resident.
Meetings will be on alternate Monday evenings from 6-8 pm on the following dates: January 24, February 7 and 28, and March 14 and 28.
Participants are expected to attend all five sessions. There is no fee, but the program is limited to 15 participants. Sign up at the Main Floor Circulation Desk or call the library.
*Scrabble Junior is now available for families of all ages.
Scrabble Club continues on Sunday afternoons with informal play for all ages in the Young Adult area. Drop in and have some fun with this classic word game from 1 to 5 pm. Check out games at the main desk for play in the library.

Adult Programs
*Film Series: C.H. Booth Library continues its series of award-winning independent films with a screening on Tuesday, January 25, at 7:30 pm, of the Brazilian film, The Man of the Year.
Maiquel has lost a bet and must dye his hair. This little event triggers a head-on collision with destiny in which Maiquel goes from a nobody to hero to outlaw, all in hours. The film is in Portuguese with English subtitles.
The next film in the series will be Light of My Eyes on Tuesday, February 22, an Italian film with subtitles.
*Book Discussions: Upcoming discussions are as follows: January 10 at 1 pm, Virgin Blue by Tracy Chevalier; January 20 at 7:30 pm, Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini; February 1 at 1 pm, Founding Father by Richard Brookhiser; February 17 at 7:30 pm, Life of Pi by Van Martel; and February 21 at 1 pm, A Trail of Heartâs Blood Wherever We Go by Robert Olmstead.
