Tercentennial Events

December 2 — Tercentennial Tree Lighting, town’s Christmas Tree at Hawley Pond, Elm Drive at Hawley Road, 7 pm, caroling will lead into lighting of tree by Tercentennial Committee Chairman Dan Cruson, then visits with Santa and Mrs Claus and light refreshments will continue the event.

December 4 — “Celebrating Newtown’s Historic Families,” at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, 11 am to 4 pm, family histories and memorabilia will highlight some of the people and families who have helped shape and develop Newtown; 426-2607, 426-3651.

December 4 — Tercentennial Coffee Table Book sales, at Edmond Town Hall’s Alexandria Room and C.H. Booth Library, 11 am–5 pm, copies of Newtown 2005: The Way We Are After 300 Years will be available for purchase ($25).

December 11 — Tercentennial Coffee Table Book Reception, at C.H. Booth Library lower meeting room, 25 Main Street, 4–6 pm, books $25 each, reception with editor, designers and many photographers involved in producing Newtown 2005: The Way We Are After 300 Years, light refreshments; 426-4533.

Through December 31 — Images from Newtown Historical Images Archive on view at Koenig FrameWorks, 97 South Main Street (in South Main Marketplace), Monday–Friday 9 am–6 pm, Saturday 10 am–5 pm, Sunday 11 am–5 pm, 46 fine art giclée prints depicting Newtown scenes from the 1880s to 1950s, including ten on view for first time, most prints available for purchase (proceeds benefit Newtown Historical Society); 270-1887.
