Bring Old Bird Books For Appraisal—

Public Invited To Members’ Night At Western CT Bird Club

WOODBURY — On Thursday, February 16, the members of the Western Connecticut Bird Club will be getting together for a night of swapping birding stories, renewing friendships, and sharing memories.

The public is invited to attend and participate free of charge. The social gathering is at 6:30 pm, and the meeting begins at 7. Meetings are usually over by 8:30.

Members and guests are urged to ask those questions about bird ID or bird behavior and also to share an anecdote of a birding experience as well as favorite slides or photos. A slide projector will be available.

Images of raptors and other bird species taken this past year by Club President Larry Fischer will be shown. There will also be a small display of used and rare bird books from the 1870s to the present. If there is an old bird book in your family that belonged to an ancestor, and if you are curious about how rare it is or how much it might be worth, bring it to the meeting for appraisal.

The meeting will be at Woodbury Public Library, at 269 Main Street South (Route 6). The library is not visible from the road, but the driveway is directly opposite the traffic light at the intersection of Main Street and Route 317.

All of Woodbury’s municipal buildings are down this driveway. Heading north, turn right and heading south turn left along side a building and down the driveway. There is parking by the Shove Building, straight back and up a small hill. Visitors can also turn left after the Shove Building and park between the police station and the library.

The Western Connecticut Bird Club is a nonprofit organization devoted to promoting the pleasure of bird watching. The club meets the third Thursday of the month from September to April (except December). In May, there is a club picnic and in June, the club participates in a June Bird Count.

For more information contact Larry Fischer at 426-3901 or Anne Kehmna at 860-354-8417.
