Changing Of The Guard At Trinity Day School
By Laurie Borst
Trinity Day School has a new director. Kathy Cornelio has been hired to succeed Nancy Nathanson, who is moving to New Jersey. âI have family, two sons, who live there,â she said. Ms Nathanson has been at Trinity Day for 12 years, four as a teacher and the past eight years as director.
During her tenure, she oversaw the schoolâs reaccreditation with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the size of the school increased from eight classes to 12, servicing 185 children.
âWeâve had families with three and four children who all attended. You really get to know them all well,â Ms Nathanson said.
Trinity Day Schoolâs preschool program is 30 years old. The school provides classes for 3- and 4- year-olds who attend either morning or afternoon sessions.
Ms Cornelio comes to Trinity from the Bridgeport preschool Precious Memories, where she was assistant director for three years. She taught there for one year prior to that.
Ms Cornelio holds an associateâs degree in Early Childhood Education and has her child development associate (CDA) credential. She ran a home-based day care for eight years, then taught at a preschool in Milford.
When asked about her plans for the program, Ms Cornelio replied, âI plan to âstay the course.â I want to continue Nancyâs fine work. The program has a great reputation.â
She continued, âThere is a wonderful, warm feeling here. A warm, family atmosphere. I am looking forward to being part of that.â
